پیشگیری و درمان دیابت با توجه به شیوه زندگی امروزه که با عدم تحرک، استرس و عادات غذایی نادرست همراه است، بسیار ضروریست. بنابراین هدف این پژوهش بررسی تأثیر تعاملی مصرف مکمل تخم گشنیز و تمرین منتخب هوازی بر برخی از عوامل خطرزایی قلبی-عروقی زنان مبتلا به دیابت نوع دو دارای اضافه وزن بود. در این مطالعه نیمه‌تجربی تعداد 40 زن دیابتی نوع دو دارای اضافه وزن با میانگین سن 6/4±82/48 به‌صورت تصادفی در گروه‌های تمرین هوازی+ مکمل گشنیز، تمرین هوازی+ دارونما، مکمل گشنیز و دارونما قرار گرفتند. برنامه تمرین هوازی شامل هشت هفته دویدن با شدت 60 تا 72 درصد ضربان قلب بیشینه بود. گروه‌های دریافت‌کننده مکمل، روزانه 500 میلی‌گرم پودر تخم گشنیز را 30 تا 60 دقیقه قبل از صرف وعده ناهار و شام مصرف می‌کردند. نمونه‌های خونی در مراحل پیش و پس آزمون جمع‌آوری و تحلیل داده‌ها با استفاده از آزمون آنالیز واریانس یک‌طرفه و آزمون تی وابسته با سطح معنی‌داری (0.05≥P) با استفاده از نرم‌افزار SPSS انجام شد. نتایج تحلیل درون گروهی نشان داد که سطوح سرمی کلسترول و LDL-C در گروه‌های تمرین-مکمل کاهش معنی‌داری یافت و سطح تری‌گلیسیرید و HDL-C در هیچ‌یک از گروه‌ها تغییر معنی‌داری نداشت. همچنین تفاوت معنی‌دار بین گروهی در هیچ‌یک از متغیر‌ها مشاهده نشد. نتایج بدست‌آمده از این پژوهش نشان داد هشت هفته مصرف مکمل گشنیز و تمرین هوازی می‌تواند اثرهای مفیدی بر روی سطح کلسترول و LDL-C در بیماران مبتلا به دیابت نوع دو داشته باشد، در نتیجه با تأثیری که بر چربی‌های خون می‌گذارد ممکن است باعث کاهش خطر بیماری‌های قلبی-عروقی شود.
