استفاده از محرک‌ها روشی کارآمد برای افزایش تولید متابولیت‌های ثانویه گیاهان دارویی در شرایط برون و درون شیشه‌ای به‌شمار می‌رود. این تحقیق به‌منظور بررسی اثر شوری صفر و 50 میلی‌مولار، سالیسیلیک اسید و متیل‌جاسمونات با غلظت‌های صفر و 100 میکرومولار در دو محیط کشت جامد و مایع بر صفات بیوشیمیایی و فعالیت آنزیم فنیل‌آلانین آمونیالیاز (PAL) کالوس گیاه استویا (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) در شرایط درون شیشه‌ای انجام شد. این تحقیق با آرایش فاکتوریل دو عاملی بر پایه کاملاً تصادفی در 4 تکرار انجام گردید. محرک‌های مورد استفاده، محیط کشت و اثر متقابل آنها تأثیر معنی‌داری بر صفات اندازه‌گیری شده داشتند. بیشترین میزان تولید فنل و فلاونوئید، در تیمار اسید سالیسیلیک 100 + شوری 50 و تیمار شوری 50 میلی‌مولار در محیط کشت جامد دیده شد. تیمارهای شوری 50 میلی‌مولار، اسید سالیسیلیک 100+ شوری 50 و متیل‌جاسمونات 100+ شوری 50 در محیط کشت جامد سبب افزایش فعالیت آنزیم PAL نسبت به سایر تیمارها شدند. بین آنزیم فنیل‌آلانین آمونیالیاز، فنل و فلاونوئید همبستگی مثبت دیده شد. تیمار شوری 50 میلی‌مولار همچنین سبب افزایش اسید آمینه پرولین شد. بنابراین برای بهبود تولید ترکیب‌های ثانویه‌ای مانند فنل، فلاونوئید و همچنین فعالیت آنزیم فنیل‌آلانین آمونیالیاز در استویا، استفاده از تیمار ترکیبی سالیسیلیک‌اسید (100 میکرومولار) و شوری (50 میکرومولار) در شرایط کشت جامد توصیه می‌شود.
