گیاه مورتلخ (Salvia mirzayanii Rech. F. & Esfand.) یکی از گونه‌های دارویی تیره نعناع (Lamiaceae) است که تنها در ایران به‌صورت خودرو رشد می‌کند. در این پژوهش، اندام‌های مختلف (برگ، گل، ساقه و گیاه کامل) گیاه مورتلخ در فروردین سال 1397 از منطقه خُنج استان فارس جمع‌آوری شده و از نظر مقدار اسانس و تنوع ترکیب‌های شیمیایی موجود در آنها مورد مطالعه قرار گرفتند. اسانس نمونه‌ها به روش تقطیر با آب استخراج و ترکیب‌های شیمیایی آنها با دستگاه گاز کروماتوگرافی (GC) و گاز کروماتوگرافی متصل به طیف‌سنج جرمی (GC-MS) شناسایی گردید. عملکرد اسانس اندام‌های مختلف برگ، گل، ساقه و گیاه کامل به‌ترتیب 3.2، 2.6، 0.4 و 2.3 درصد (وزنی به وزنی) بدست آمد. بیشترین اجزای شیمیایی شناسایی شده در گیاه کامل و گل (26 ترکیب) و کمترین آنها در ساقه (23 ترکیب) ملاحظه گردید. نتایج آنالیز ترکیب‌های اسانس نشان داد که آلفا- ترپینیل استات، لینالول، 8،1-سینئول، بتا-اودِسمول، دلتا-کادینن و آلفا-ترپینئول اجزای اصلی اسانس برگ بودند. ترکیب‌های عمده اسانس گل شامل دلتا-کادینن، آلفا-ترپینیل استات، لینالول، بتا-اودسمول و گاما-کادینن بودند. در اسانس ساقه ترکیب‌های آلفا-ترپینیل استات، لینالول، لینالول استات، 8،1-سینئول و آلفا-ترپینئول به فراوانی دیده شد. در اسانس گیاه کامل دلتا-کادینن، آلفا-ترپینیل استات، لینالول، 8،1-سینئول، گاما-کادینن و آلفا-ترپینئول بیشترین ترکیب‌های اسانس را به خود اختصاص دادند. وجود تنوع شیمیایی در اسانس گیاه کامل و اندام‌های مختلف این گیاه می‌تواند برای صنایع دارویی، غذایی و آرایشی بهداشتی و نیز به‌نژادگران گیاهان دارویی در انتخاب اندام مناسب برای مصرف و اهداف اصلاحی مورد توجه قرار گیرد.
