Abstract

Zataria multiflora from labiatae family which is widely distributed in south, south-east and central provinces of Iran. Fresh & dry leaves are locally used as an pharmaceutical agent and also as a spice. The literatures show the carvacrol as major compound in oils extracted from different origins. As part of screening programme on the aromatic plants of Iran, we are going to report the chemical composition of the essential oil from Zataria multiflora which is named locally “Avishan Shirazi”.
