Essential oil composition of Mentha pulegium L.

Mentha pulegium from labiatae family which is distributed in north of Iran. The essential oil from this plant if full of pulegone which is used in hygienic products. This plant is locally used as antiseptic agent, expectorant, carminative and specially for treatment of wheeping-cough.
As part of screening programme on the aromatic plants of Iran, we are going to report the chemical composition of the essential oil from this plant which is named locally “Khal Vash-Spearmint”.
محل جمع آوری گیاه: لاهیجان
فصل جمع آوری گیاه: تابستان
اندام مورد استفاده: قسمتهای هوایی گیاه
روش اسانس گیری: تقطیر با آب و بخار با دستگاه Kaiser & Lang
بازده اسانس: 0.2% نسبت به وزن گیاه خشک
ترکیبهای اصلی: پولگون (66.5%)، منتون (24.5%)، منتوفوران (4.2%)

Ziziphora clinopodioides from labiatae family which is distributed in Gorgan, Baluchestan, Lorestan & some parts of central provinces of Iran. The essential oil from this plant is full of pulegone & neomenthol.
Pulegon is used in formulation of soap, artificial essential oil, flavouring and also in insecticides. This plant are locally used as anti-inflammation and antiseptic.
As part of screening programme on the aromatic plants of Iran, we are going to report the chemical composition of the essential oil from this plant which is named locally “Avishan-e barik”.
