Prevention and treatment of diabetes are a vital part of today’s lifestyle, which is associated with inactivity, stress, and bad eating habits. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the interactive effect of coriander seed supplementary and selected aerobic exercise on some cardiovascular risk factors in overweight women with type 2 diabetes. In this semi-experimental study, 40 overweight diabetic (type 2) women with a mean age of 48.82±4.6 were randomly assigned to groups including aerobic exercise + coriander supplement, aerobic exercise +placebo, coriander supplement, and placebo. The aerobic training program consisted of eight weeks (three sessions week-1) of running at 60-72% of the maximum heart rate. Supplement recipient groups received 500 mg of coriander seed powder daily 30-60 minutes before lunch and dinner. Pre- and post-test blood samples were collected and analyzed using one-way ANOVA and t-test (P≤0.05) using SPSS software. The results of the intra-group analysis showed that serum levels of cholesterol and LDL-C decreased in exercise-supplement groups, and triglyceride and HDL-C levels did not change in any of the groups, significantly. Also, there were no significant differences between groups in any of the variables. The results of this study showed that eight weeks of coriander supplement and aerobic exercise could have beneficial effects on cholesterol and LDL-C levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, and as a result, it may reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases by affecting blood lipids.

Antibiotics have a positive effect on broilers performance; however they may have negative effects such as microbial resistance in humans and animals. Medicinal plants are one of the alternatives to antibiotics as growth stimulators. A research was conducted to compare the effects of medicinal plants: mint, basil, parsley, dill, coriander, garlic (1.5% in feed) with antibiotic virginiamycin (15ppm in feed) on broiler performance, blood factors, immune system, intestinal morphology and organoleptic tastes of broiler meat. For this purpose an experiment with a total of 480 d- old male broiler chicks (ROSS 308) were divided into eight treatments with three replicates of 20 birds per replicate in a completely randomized design (CRD). The highest body weight and the lowest feed intake were related to virginiamycin (p<0.05). There was no difference in feed conversion ratio among treatments (p>0.05). LDL and cholesterol levels were lowest in the group fed with garlic (p<0.05). Lower blood uric acid levels were associated with parsley (p<0.05). Relative weights of lymphoid organs (spleen and bursa Fabricious) as two immune indexes were compared among different groups which was not affected by treatments (p>0.05). Antibody response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) in secondary response was higher in garlic and dill groups (p<0.05). Antibody responses to Newcastle disease vaccine (LaSota) was not affected by treatments (p>0.05). The lowest and highest heterophil/lymphocyte ratio was obtained in garlic group and control group (p<0.05), respectively. Villi height was not changed significantly in any segment of intestine (p<0.05). Ratio of villous height to crypt depth and villous height to basal width was significant (p<0.05). It is concluded that coriander and mint have significant effects in odor, color, texture and overall acceptance of broiler meat (p<0.05), so these plants can be used as feed additives in poultry diets.

Growth indices are useful for interpreting plant reaction to environmental factors. In order to study the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), P2O5 fertilizer and irrigation according to physiological growth indices of coriander, this experiment was conducted at Iran Research Institute of Forest and Rangelands in 2006. Field experiment was carried out in split factorial based randomized complete block design with 4 replications. The factors studied included application and non-application of mycorrhiza (Glomus hoi), 0, 16 and 32 kg/ha P2O5 fertilizer (triple super phosphate) and two levels of irrigation, irrigation after 30 mm water evaporation from evaporation pan (without drought stress conditions) and irrigation after 60 mm water evaporation (drought stress conditions). The results of 7 sample stages showed that applications of mycorrhiza and 70 kg/ha phosphorus without drought stress conditions increased dry matter, leaf area index, relative growth rate, net assimilation rate and crop growth rate and these characteristics decreased under drought stress conditions sorely. The results showed that mycorrhiza fungi could increase absorb of phosphorus by symbiosis between fungi and coriander root. This condition can reduce application of phosphorus fertilizers in fields, without reducing of yield and quality yield.
