Increasing the efficiency of growth and survival is one of the important goals of modern aquaculture. For this purpose, with regard to the positive effects of essential oils in the diet, the effects of essential oil (Satureja hortensis L.) was investigated with the aim of improving the growth, blood biochemical and body composition indices of roach fry (Rutilus caspicus) for 60 days. In this study, 360 individuals with an average weight of 2.29±0.07 g were fed with a diet containing 100, 200 and 400 mg per kg of food and control group (without essential oil). The results showed that the highest final weight and percentage of body weight gain, lowest feed conversion rate and especial growth rate, the greatest amount of protein and lowest amount of fat were found in the diet containing 200 mg of essential oil (P<0.05). Total protein and albumin in the treatment containing 200 mg of essential oil showed a significant increase as compared with other treatments (P<0.05). In addition, the lowest level of cortisol and glucose in the diet containing 200 mg of essential oil showed significant difference with control treatment (P<0.05). In general, it seems that the Satureja essential oil at a level of 200 mg in the diet could be effective in growth, survival, total protein, glucose and body composition of roach fry.

Because of the economic and medicinal importance of Rosa damascena Mill. the propagation of this plant was considered. In order to protect the selected genotypes, this experiment was performed by simple layering method during autumn and winter seasons 2007 on new growth twigsof Rosa damascena mature shrubs. The branches were laid in sand bed, soaked for 24 h by different concentrations of IBA and NAA hormones. The results showed that the rate of rooting was high in sand bedding material in autumn and winter. The highest rooting percentage was %100 with 50 mgl-1 concentration of IBA in autumn and winter seasons and the lowest of rooting percentage was %53.33 with 50 mgl-1 concentration of NAA in autumn season. The rooting branches were cut from the parent plants after 3 months and planted in pots containing soil: sand: peatmoss complex (1:1:1) in greenhouse conditions, survival percentage was 90%.

Toxoplasma gondii is one of the most important apicomplexan parasites of humen and other warm-blooded animals. In the present study the effect of garlic extract on the acute toxoplasmosis was evaluated in a murine model. A total of 35 balb/c mice were included, and 10000 were given to each mouse intraperitoneally. In the first experiment, 20 mice were given the garlic extract 100, 200, 400 and 500 mg/kg/day orally for 7 days starting the day after Toxoplasma organisms of the RH strain Toxoplasma gondii administration. A group of 5 mice were used as controls. In the second experiment, the treatment was started at 24 hours after administration and garlic tablets 100 and 500 mg/kg/day were given for 7 days. Animals that received the garlic extract and garlic tablets survived, and all of the control animals died after 4-5 days. Animals treated with garlic extract and garlic tablets showed a survival rate of 100% until the fifth day of experiment (p<0.0001). The tachizoites of Toxoplasma were disappeared in the liver of experimented mice, but they were found a few in the spleen of treated mice. Garlic extract and garlic tablets were found to be effective in the treatment of murine Toxoplasmosis. In this study there was no difference between the effects of garlic extract and garlic tablet. The results of this study has shown that garlic extract administration results in the increasement of survival time of mice that were contaminated with a killing dose of Toxoplasma and reduces the appearance of this parasite in the tissues. The best dose of garlic extract for increasing the survival time is 200 mg/kg. In conclusion, these effects could be resulted from antibacterial and immunomodulatoric effects of garlic.

The effect of making wounds (incision)on bulgy roots of Ferula gumosa was studied in order to find the survival rate and yield of plants. This project was conducted over 4 years in Houmand absard station . Different sizes of bulgy roots were collected from Lar valley in Tehran province then transplanted in to farm in Nov.1999.Three treatments were selected including making incision 3,4 and 5 times on the bulgy roots of 40 samples for each one that chose by random in sizes and control(treatment without incision) in July and August 2002. The survival rate and the yield of gum in different treatment were measured the result showed that the yield gum had decrease with the increase of incision times ,average of production and survival in analysis variation compared . There is no significant difference between the numbers of treatments(incision)and also no significant differece between survival of them in compare with control treatment . The highst production belongs to the three times incicsion and the lowest production belongs to the five times. After transplanting the roots from natural site to farm for gum extraction ,more than two years rest for making new combium and also bulgy roots with more than 15 cm. in diameter are needed.
